Our research is focused on how cognitive performance is affected across the lifespan.

Some of our research is focused on the menopause transition. A transition during which hormone levels vary considerably. The experiences of women before they begin menopause, during menopause and after the transition are crucial in this study. In menopause, the areas of cognition being looked into are attention and memory. For many women, the menopause transition is a crucial health milestone. This milestone for many women is breezed through without many problems but for a small minority of women, this is not the case. Aside the physical (somatic), psychological and vasomotor symptoms experienced, some women report experiencing brain fog and difficulty in concentrating. Interestingly, this midlife stage is also marked by some social change. Social change includes but is not limited to women assuming caring responsibilities for elderly parents and career changes. Some of the aims of the study is to ascertain how menopause symptoms and some life events affect attention and memory during this milestone. Do these symptoms or the fluctuation in hormones directly affect cognition or is it as a result of other factors?
